Deforestation by Antoinette Baylosis

Deforestation is the permanent destruction of indigenous forests and woodlands. Over the years, more and more parts of our forests are affected by deforestation, and the damage grows at an alarming rate. 12 million hectares of forests are cleared annually. What's more alarming is that people still do not pay much attention to what is happening.

Deforestation is caused by the following factors: logging, conversion of forests to agricultural lands, quarrying, and many others. Everything has its consequences. Deforestation is no exception. As a result, landslides occur, species face extinction, lands become a barren, and we lose another precious source of resources.

There is a possibility that by 2010, the world will lose almost all of its forests. Must we wait until that happens? I don't think so. It's never too late to start saving our environment. As a student, we can do so without a problem. Simple things like conserving paper can help. Let's help in preserving our natural wonders, stop deforestation!
